Well preserved throughout and in a prominant position the views from the Castle below are spectacular. They include Monmiuthshire and the Black Mountains.

White Castle situated 12 KM West as the crow flies from Monmouth and 8KM East of Abergavenny is the best preserved of the 3 castles namely White, Skenfrith and Grosmont according to conservationists Cadw.

 

Forming part of the 3 Castles Way White Castle was once part of the Hubert de Burgh area of control. The castle was built post the Norman invasion of 1066 and was primarily a military facility but did include a chapel, hall and kitchen. A garrison commander would have been more at home here than a Lord.
