White Castle situated 12 KM West as the crow flies from Monmouth and 8KM East of Abergavenny is the best preserved of the 3 castles namely White, Skenfrith and Grosmont according to conservationists Cadw.
Forming part of the 3 Castles Way White Castle was once part of the Hubert de Burgh area of control. The castle was built post the Norman invasion of 1066 and was primarily a military facility but did include a chapel, hall and kitchen. A garrison commander would have been more at home here than a Lord.
